HUD Grants Funds to Combat Housing Discrimination

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awards two grants to the Southwest Fair Housing Council (SWFHC) for fair housing enforcement and education.

SWFHC was awarded two grants totaling $425,000 focused on an enforcement initiative and an education initiative. The enforcement grant, $300,000, focuses on activities to curb housing discrimination including investigating allegations of discriminatory housing practices. The education grant, $125,000, focuses on educating the public, housing providers, nonprofits, government entities, and others about rights and responsibilities under the Fair Housing Act.

“We are extremely grateful and happy we can continue doing the work of ensuring equal access and opportunity to housing afforded under the Fair Housing Act,” stated Jay Young, Executive Director of SWFHC.

These funds will be used to help people who believe they have been victims of housing discrimination. The funds granted by HUD take effect on July 1st.
